Before founding Kennedy Law in 1999, attorney Michael Kennedy had already gained first-hand knowledge in areas that are often critical to our clients. Michael P. Kennedy, Jr.
Mike Kennedy brings more than 20 years of tax and legal experience to his clients. Mike represents individuals and the business community in tax planning, tax controversies, business law, and estate planning. With extensive experience in all types of tax matters, as well as in negotiation and/or drafting of simple and complex estate plans, business sale agreements, and corporate governance documents, Mike is able to explain complex legal and tax matters in language that clients can comprehend.
Prior to founding the firm in 1999, Mike was a manager for a Minneapolis public accounting firm where he oversaw the firm's small business group and the estate planning and compliance group. Prior to that he worked for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and for the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and studied accounting at the University of Minnesota. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.
Outside of the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his four children. He also coaches various youth sports teams (hockey, soccer, baseball), and volunteers for numerous wildlife preservation and church related organizations.

Scott Ruhsam represents clients in matters of tax, business, estate planning, probate and probate administration. Prior to joining Kennedy Law, Scott worked for a law firm in Bloomington, Minnesota where he practiced in estate planning and civil litigation. He also worked in government relations for a national non-profit organization, and served as inside general counsel for a midsize closely held business.
Scott attended the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Scientific and Technical writing. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he earned his Juris Doctor.
Scott currently lives, and has resided for most of his life, in south Minneapolis. Outside of the office, Scott enjoys volunteering at Washburn High School football games, coaching youth basketball in Minneapolis, and serving on the board of the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living. Scott also enjoys playing basketball, softball, golf, and spending time with his wife.

Sue Smith has been with Kennedy Law since 2010. Sue prepares personal and business income tax returns, fiduciary and estate tax returns, and provides accounting services for businesses, estates, bankrupt entities, and probates. Prior to Joining Kennedy Law, Sue worked for a family office in St. Paul, Minnesota, for more than 20 years where she managed the tax department and was a member of the management team as the Chief Compliance Officer.
Sue attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and History. She attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she earned her Juris Doctor with a focus in tax and estate planning.
Sue lives north of Stillwater in Grant, Minnesota with her children. She enjoys country living, traveling, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.

Terrance Zawacki represents individuals and businesses in tax controversies, litigation, business law, and estate planning. Prior to joining Kennedy Law, Terrance worked for a public accounting firm in mergers and acquisitions, and corporate tax. Prior to that he was the founder and partner of a general practice law firm in Rochester, Minnesota.
Terrance earned his Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Michigan, where he also served as President of the National Honor Society in Psychology. Terrance worked in banking and finance before attending William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota on an academic scholarship. There he served as a member of the William Mitchell Law Review and earned his Juris Doctor. While in law school, Terrance was enrolled in two Judicial Externships, interning for the Honorable Judge Francis J. Connolly at the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and for the Honorable Judge George T. Stephenson at the Ramsey County District Court.

Luke Campbell is a tax specialist and enrolled agent. He has been working with Kennedy Law since February 2015. Luke is licensed to represent clients in all tax related matters before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Minnesota Department of Revenue, and the United States Tax Court. Luke studied accounting and tax law at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and at the University of Minnesota.
Prior to joining Kennedy Law, Luke worked for the IRS in the Collection, Examination and Appeals functions for over 20 years. From 2007 until his retirement in 2015, Luke worked in the IRS office of the Taxpayer Advocate, protecting the rights of individuals and businesses and ensuring their fair treatment by the IRS.

Robynn Lorentz is the Office Administrator for both the Eagan and Cannon Falls office. In addition to all of her office responsibilities, Robynn assists in keeping our clients informed of the status of their case. She also plays an integral role in overseeing our real estate closings, working closely with our clients throughout the entire closing process to make sure their needs are met.
Prior to joining Kennedy Law, Robynn worked as Real Estate Closer for over 18 years with Goodhue County Abstract & Title Company. During her tenure there, Robynn handled numerous home refinances, along with various buy-side and sell-side closings. She developed many lasting relationships with both lenders and realtors, and enjoyed working closely with clients on some of the most important transactions of their lives. Robynn earned her Associate's Degree from Minneapolis Business College in Legal Office Administration in 1989.
Outside of the office, Robynn enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She also enjoys cooking, camping and traveling.
